The more I watch this show, the more endearing it gets cuz of scenes like this. Itâs not just the sincerity that I find so appealing â itâs the simple truth of their growing affection for each other that is creeping closer to our two leads that interests me the most. Pretty soon there wonât be anywhere to hide for Joong Won. His jealousy will rear its head and that realization is going to knock him senseless. Thatâs the best part â all that bluster and for what â he will fall for the very last woman on earth he could see himself with. Iâm not sure what will floor him more â the fact that he has feelings for her or that everything he did so far led to that moment. He only has himself to blame and itâs going to be pretty hard for him to kick himself when she is hanging all over him. He avoided intimacy and physical contact until she came into his life and changed that around by dangling his greed before his eyes. With his new competition throwing down the gauntlet, now the thought of not having her touch him exclusively is going to drive Joong Won crazy. The sadist in me canât wait to watch Joong Won resort to being the one to seek out ghosts just so she will need him. Written before it aired As I watched that last scene unfold on episode four, I kept thinking how swoon-worthy that was for a reason most people wouldnât find romantic. It wasnât the sweeping embrace or putting aside his anger towards her that moved me so much. The man who claims to care only about money walked away from a business meeting to come rescue her. That appointment was so important to him and yet the only thought that registered when Kim said there was a huge accident nearby was that she would have to see a lot of dead people without him. As soon as his phone was returned to him, he immediately asked if anyone had called as if he anticipated her call, but then he realized she wouldnât cuz he lashed out at her. Even though he was mad at her for lying to him, Joong Won still went to her cuz he knew she would need him now more than any other time. I love when the male lead cares more than he lets on or even wants to. Itâs as if some unfathomable force is controlling his actions and he gets baffled by his sudden change in demeanor until the truth of his feelings sinks in. I have a feeling Joong Won is going to stay in denial land for a while longer since he has so many unresolved issues with his first love. I know itâs wishful thinking, but I sort of hope he lets Gong Sil stay by his side for that night since she didnât get any sleep the other day. If you are going to play the role of hero, might as well go that extra step and help her get some sleep too. Joong Won pushes her away but as Gong Sil thanks him, she is reluctant to let him go. He looks down at her hands still gripping his jacket. Gong Sil sorry I have to keep holding onto you to feel safe. She relustantly lets go. He understands her fear and says letâs go and takes her hand through the accident site. At first he put his hand over hers, but later on he is holding her hand tightly as they walk. They get to a bridge walk and he asks if they got further away now and if itâs ok. she looks around and says there doesnât seem to be any ghosts following me. she lets go to check around some more and goes back to holding his arm and says there arenât any. he says there isnât any so why hold me again. she says my hand keeps going to your body automatically. Joong Won points out he isnâ like shrimp chips for her hands to keep reaching out to. Gong Sil that is true â you are a really expensive president. also since you are mad at me â I thought you would keep away so I couldnât touch you. Thank you so much for helping me president. He points out how she is expensive to him cuz of the money she can get back for him and I donât run away from something expensive. Gong Sil smiles and says I am the radar that can see a 9 million dollar ghost huh? He says you are a 100 yuk radar but if you overdo it again telling lies to make him feel better, at that time I will run off. Gong Sil Iâm sorry I was just trying to make your heart more at ease but he stops her from talking and says donât even say those things to comfort me. all I want is your ability to see the dead Cha Hee Joo. Gong Sil yes I overdid it- from here on I will just use my ability that you want and not overdo anything else. he tells her to come to work tm for her new job cuz he has a position to set her up. Joong Won even if you arenât comfortable it doesnât matter cuz I am the one person in the world you need. no matter how expensive I act you cant turn me down. his hand motion indicates he means his whole body. she points out if you look at it that way â I am the only person for you. Joong Won thatâs true â you are the only person. without me you are scared to death huh? but for me when you arenât around â itâs just to the extent that itâs too bad. she goes after him asking if itâs too that extent than be more lenient. he tells her to get lost. she asks if he is kidding about deducting her pay. he says she will know in the future if he is kidding Joong Won is at home and remembers holding her hand and hugging her and says $100 â itâs not even the cost of one bottle of champagne. $1000 -itâs not even half the price of this fridge and I hugged her â it was too cheap. Gong Sil hugs her stuffed animal and says what Joong Won said â your bunker came so hide. he was so cool a while ago. she tells her stuffed animal â come to your senses cuz he didnât do it cuz he likes you. he was just chasing away the ghosts for you. if you keep having those silly thoughts you could lose your bunker. at times like that a person could feel flustered -you just see ghosts â you arenât a ghost. she hugs it and says I will give you $1000 especially. $2000. $ go away. do you like it? There is a place where some sĂ©ance like ritual is being seems like a match making for a ghost. they are speaking Chinese. scary woman says the girl who died is the same age as the boy and she died at the same age. there is a ghost of a rich young guy and a girl. the woman prepared something. the young boy is referred to as young master. there is a parchment with red letters. the scary woman says the young master is here and once he finds his partner he will be able to leave comfortably. his grandmother speaks to her grandsonâs ghost and says if grandma does this will you be comfortable? he turns scary looking and is gone. the scary woman says the young master didnât like this young lady. I will find another one. Gong Sil washed her hair and dried it. she wore makeup even and gets ready for her new job The older boy tells Kang Woo the milk was delivered and asks are you going to drink it now. Kang Woo tells him to drink it. the kid thanks him and tells him how Gong Sil got a hired at the same place as him. she just now left. this time she has to do well and not get fired so you watch over her. scary people follow her around and bother her. Kang Woo what kind of people. kid says you will know later when you see them. you are brave right hyung? donât run away and protect Gong Sil noona well â you said you liked noona. Kim says on the surface she is a special customer service, but in reality she is a storage keeper. Kim tells Joong Won that her disappointment was great cuz it wasnât the job she imagined. Joong Won smiles and says it was the prefect position for her. Gong Sil is in her storage room and reads her business card job title. the coffee ghost comes out so she offers to buy him some The scary woman from the sĂ©ance shows up at the mall and stares down Sung Ran â Joong Wonâs aunt. Sung Ran nods to her. Seuk Chul asks if she knows the woman Sung Ran says the woman is Chinese and is famous among all the wealthy families who know of her. She can contact the dead and is a matchmaker for the dead. a wedding that is forever. In case the dearly departed loved ones might be lonely the woman finds a match for the deceased. She is the post wedding planner. Seuk Chul says wealthy families do the silliest things. Sung Ran changes the subject and says I heard Bang room Sil got a room â where is that? since she mixed up the name again Seuk Chul corrects her in a snappish tone and says not a room â an office. And she isnât Bang Sil, she is Gong Sil. Sung Ran gapes at him in disbelief so he quickly says I love you. Gong Sil tells her sister about her new job so Gong Ri reads the business card and says there was something like that? Gong Sil says when you go there you cant see it well but there is a storage room. Gong Ri says anyway itâs good. hope strange things donât stick to you there. Seuk Chul fills in Joong Won about his meeting with the Giant Mall president and the information they exchanged. he says how that president is about to hold hands in business with Wang â that rich grandma. Joong Won says how she stepped away from business when she lost her precious grandson not too long ago. Seuk Chul says how Wang could be their special VIP client. that Sung Ran already went to the special customer service center that Joong Won made. Gong Sil gets scared and says then I canât go. But he tells Gong Sil to go and meet him if he is there. find out if Giant mall has plans to hold hands with the grandmaâs company. ask what the grandmaâs business plans are from here on. Gong Sil I am scared but she is she important to you? Joong Won very important so ask her personal matters too. She knocks and asks â open the door. the scary woman says stay there for one night. even though you arenât dead, you can do it. just stay there with him for one day. Gong Sil stops panicking and looks around. she sees the grandsonâs photo. he is standing by the window with his back to her. she gets closer and his face gets scary looking. grandma is told she has a guest. she asks what he is doing here. Joong Won says I came to get my female employee who made a delivery here. where is she? grandma asks if presidents go around looking for their female employees themselves these days. Joong Won if she was just an average female employee then you wouldnât have called her separately over here. grandma says I invited her over cuz I had a special favor to ask of her. I am treating her well like my guest so act like you donât know and leave. He smiles and tells the grandma I didnât open it â this woman opened it as Gong Sil sticks her head out again and says you came president. the scary woman says everything was ruined. He gives Gong Sil a dirty look but Gong Sil says grandma your grandson told me to tell you something. She relays the message from the grandson in his tone just the way he said it- grandma stop doing this now. also tell that ajumma with her dolls to get lost. she makes the same gesture as the guy would have so his grandma is happy to hear from her grandson and says it is my Ji Woo. Joong Won turns back to the grandma and says my employee will drop by here and through a lot of conversations with your grandson, she will find that out for you. grandma asks didnât you say she was an important employee that you had to take back. He looks and says there is no bruise, but it will swell. so why come and vent your anger at your friend over your broken wedding. He says itâs not pretty at all â it looks like cabbage like you. she says if I grow out my hair and dress up, Iâm ok. why do you keep saying I am ugly. he leans in and says cuz you are ugly. itâs hard to tell the difference if you are a girl or boy. he leaned in and kissed her. afterwards he says it wasnât that great cuz she isnât like a girl. it hurts her feelings so he says donât cry cuz if you cry you get uglier. she says growing flowers like you â I donât like weakly guys. I really donât like guys like you. she ran off in anger and he regretted it when he was sick and dying, his grandma held his hand and cried as he looked at the green roses. The girl cries and touches the roses and says itâs pretty. he lied that it was ugly. I grew out my hair to show you â like a dummy you died. his ghost leans over and kisses her. the roses wither and disappear. the grandma goes over and touches the vase. she says my baby go well. In the car Gong Sil tells him what type of love the green rose means. a rare stately love that only exists in heaven. thank goodness that Ji Woo, that girl, and his grandma knows his heart. Joong Won says how well things went today in getting his investment and she played a part so he offers to take her all the way to her home but Gong Sil says no donât go up to the front of the gositel. riding in your car if I run into him there is someone it could get complicated. Joong Won looks at his hand and then says to drive on Gong Sil walks home and says after just holding his hand why does it seem like I am not scared at all. I wonder why. She realizes the two men behind her arenât ghosts so why follow me. two men ask her to follow them and grab her. she asks who they are and why they are doing this. Kang Woo shows up and gets between her and the men and gently moves her back. then he fights them off Gong Sil asks if he is ok. Kang Woo asks if those guys were the ones following her around. she mutters why are people following me. the scary woman shows up Kang Woo stands nearby as they talk. the scary woman says I came cuz I wanted to see you once more but there seems to have been a misunderstanding. You shine very brightly. Thatâs why the beings in the dark keep seeking you out. EPISODE 5 RECAP As Gong-shil cringes in terror at the horde of ghosts coming at her from the accident ahead, Joong-won swoops in with a ghost-poofing hug to save the day. After sheâs had a proper swoon, he lets go, but sheâs still hanging on with both hands. Itâs pretty great. So he scowls and then takes her hand aww to lead her away. They get far enough away that he thinks theyâre in the clear, so she lets go, only to reach for his hand again like habit. She apologizes, âMy hands just keep reaching for your body.â Ha. He says heâs no bag of shrimp chips, for her to be stuffing her face with just because her hands keep reaching for more. Lol. She agrees that heâs much pricier than shrimp chips, and adds a sincere thank you for not being so mad at her as to keep his body away. He reminds her that he priced her worth at 10 billion won, and warns her not to overstep her ghost-radar bounds. He tells her to report for her official position at work tomorrow, since heâs arranged a job, and Gong-shil is ecstatic at the idea of a real salaried, full-time job, which she hasnât been able to hold down ever since her accident. Sheâs giddy at the thought, and then immediately asks if her salary will really be docked every time she touches him. He names different parts of his body like a skinship menu, and tells her sheâs already spent her entire monthâs salary tonight. Haha. He says she needs to choose wisely when to touch him and save it for those occasions when sheâs truly terrified, because heâs that one and only person in her life who can make the ghosts disappear. Aw, you love that youâre her special snowflake, donât you? She points out that technically, sheâs his one and only connection to Hee-joo, but he refuses to let them be on the same plane of specialness. At home, Joong-won mulls over the hugging and handholding, and decides he priced himself too low. Gong-shil, meanwhile, reenacts the scene with her stuffed kitty, ending in hug after hug, as she tallies up the cost. For todayâs Ghost of the Day, a shaman leads a girl into a lavish mansion and presents a grandmother and her grandson Yoo Min-kyu with his new bride-to-be. The shaman explains that sheâs just as the grandmother asked forâborn in the same year, and died at the same age. As she says the words, the two young people sitting across from each other at the table vanish in their ghost forms. The shaman says that once they perform the ghost wedding ceremony, her grandson will rest in peace. But when the shaman opens up her box of doll replicas to complete the union, Groom Ghost turns ugly and sends the bride away. The shaman sighs that he didnât like this one either, and that theyâll have to keep looking. Gong-shil gets ready for her first day of work with a huge grin, and the little neighbor boys tell Kang Woo that she already left. They ask if heâs brave, and decide that maybe heâs brave enough to protect their noona, since sheâs always being followed and running away from things. Thatâs cute. Sure enough, when Kang Woo catches up to her in the street, he sees her yelling at someone around the corner to leave her alone. He takes off running to chase the guy down, and Gong-shil quickly promises Coffee Ghost that sheâll buy him coffee later. Kang Woo comes back, thinking he lost the guy, and mentions that the kids said she was being followed. He says it explains her behavior, always anxious, taking the long way home, and asks if maybe sheâs running away from loan sharks. Heh. She thinks about it, and hesitantly tells him that the thing sheâs running from is a ghost, and itâs right behind him now⊠and Kang Woo comes face to face with Coffee Ghost and faints in her arms. Thatâs just her imagination running wild though, and she decides to tell him the most reasonable lie that sheâs running from a ghost-like stalker. He totally bucks up at that, realizing itâs something he can help her with, and offers to be her bodyguard free of charge. Itâs adorable. She doesnât even TRY to contain her swoon at the hot bodyguard wanting to protect her, and nods. So then heâs extra bodyguard-like the rest of the way, which Joong-won and Secretary Kim see on their way to the office. Secretary Kim puns that the sun sure is shining brightly today, and Joong-won whines that itâs shining so brightly that itâs raising his temperature, and throws his sunglasses on. Heh. Kang Woo gets very curious when he hears that Gong-shilâs new job involves doing something personal for the boss, but she runs off before he can hear what it is. Joong-wonâs shocked to find Gong-shil in the office before him, and she says that the bossâs secretary should always arrive before him. He like, MY secretary? YOU? and quickly dispels her of that notion. Secretary Kim shows her to her new station, a tiny closet office that doubles as a storage room, labeled VIP Room gwi-bi-shil, which is only one syllable away from âghost room.â Sure enough, her first guest is a ghost, and as the door slams shut, part of the sign falls off. She sighs in disappointment to realize that this isnât a real job, but still presents her new business card proudly to her unni down at the coffee shop. Aunt and Uncle come across the creepy shaman lady, and Aunt recognizes her right away as the famous ghost matchmaker of the upper crust. Uncle sighs that rich people spend money on the darnedest things. Seriously. But something makes Ghost Matchmaker stop in her tracks in the Kingdom lobby Gong-shil, chatting away with Coffee Ghost. She follows Gong-shil all the way back to her office and says to herself that a living girl with one foot in death is perfect⊠Uncle debriefs Joong-won on Giant Mallâs CEO and the latest rumblings that heâs teaming up with a president Wang for a big new venture. Joong-won heard that president Wang stopped working when her grandson died tragically ah so this is granny with the fickle Groom Ghost. Gong-shil tells Joong-won that she got her first assignment today directly from Auntie Joo, to drop off a gift at president Wangâs home. He tells her that she might see the ghost of her grandson while sheâs there, and asks her to pump him for information on his grandmotherâs plans for her company. Sheâs scared, so he stretches his arms out and puffs out his chest, offering himself up like a tasty treat âYou can touch. For free.â Hahaha. Her eyes grow like saucers just thinking about all the free touching she could do. She looks just like my cat when I bust out the catnip. She arrives at the house, where the matchmaker asks her to change into a red dress. Well thatâs not weird. At the same time, Joong-won tells his aunt that she neednât worry about Gong-shil and make up errands for her to keep her busy. Aunt says it was a direct request from the matchmaker herself, and muses that the rumor must be true that president Wang is so heartbroken that sheâs trying to find a ghost bride for her ghost grandson. That starts to niggle at Joong-won, and he calls Gong-shil to ask what sheâs doing. She says that the ghost is here and that they asked her to try on a pretty red Chinese dress just like in the movies. He starts to yell at her to get the hell out, but she sees Groom Ghost and hurriedly gets off the phone before he can tell her whatâs going on. He tries to tell himself that itâs her fault and that he doesnât care. Uh-huh. Quick, go save her from getting married off to a dead guy! Gong-shil follows Groom Ghost down a gated corridor and into a room, where even the photographs are creepy and do that eye-following thing. The matchmaker locks the door behind her, and tells her to spend the night with the groom. Well now youâre creepy in two ways, lady. Gong-shil slowly approaches Groom Ghost by the window, who turns to face her. He has his normal face on at first, but then he blips into his scary skull face and roars at her. Thankfully Joong-won has just arrived downstairs. He says heâs here to fetch his employee, and when president Wang plays coy, he sets out to find Gong-shil himself. He finds the room where sheâs been locked inside, and orders the maid to open it. Just as heâs reaching for the door handle, president Wang arrives behind him and offers to back him financially in place of Giant Mall⊠if he stops right now. He freezes with his hand on the door, literally stuck between choosing money or the girl. He grips the handle tightly⊠and then lets go as he whirls around to say, âOf course I chooseâŠâ Suddenly Gong-shil opens the door and sticks her head out, and he shoves her back inside. HAHAHA. Thatâs so wrong. He starts to say that sheâs the one who opened the door, not him, but Gong-shil tells granny that she has a message from her grandson, and yells at her exactly in his words and cute gestures, to cut it out already. Grandmaâs eyes fill with happy tears, knowing that it really did come from her grandson. Auntie Joo decides she needs a plan to keep Joong-won from getting too attached to Gong-shil, and thinks the best thing is to provide him with a better alternative. Naturally her idea of better is whacked, because she beelines for Yi-ryung, whoâs busy shooting a hilariously bizarre hellfire-and-brimstone cookware commercial, after having to drop the newlywed concept at the last minute. Aunt adds more fuel to the fire by telling her that Gong-shil was the one who visited her fiancĂ© just before he left her at the altar, and the prop fire shoots up in perfect timing with Yi-ryungâs fuming rage. Back at Wang Manor, Granny tells them that she couldnât let go of her grandson because of the bouquet of green roses in his room that wouldnât wilt, even after he was gone. That puts Joong-won on edge, remembering the last house that had a non-wilting rose. Gong-shil says itâs because heâs waiting for the person he liked, and Grandma lights up at that, always having regretted that he never had a first love like other kids because he was so sick and never left the house. Joong-won sees an opportunity to get on the presidentâs good side, and offers up Gong-shilâs services to help locate this first love. He waves his hands in the air and says he didnât open the door earlier, and then asks about her investment plans. Shameless. Gong-shil notices the grandson looking out the window, and peers down to see him watching the milk delivery boy. She asks the maid about it, and she says that the young master was friendly with the last delivery boy, who used to stay and play video games with him. Gong-shil realizes the last milk boy is the first love heâs been waiting for, and when she whispers it to Joong-won, his eyes widen, âA boy?â He stops her from telling Grandma in case of heart attack, and drags her outside. He doesnât want to drop a bomb in Grandmaâs face, and argues that the only thing he cares about is keeping her happy. She points out that he hated it when she lied about Hee-joo, so they canât lie about this to Granny. And most of all, she feels terrible for the poor grandson, whoâs been waiting all this time just to see the boy he likes. She tells Joong-won that sheâll go with whatever he decides, and her face falls as he starts to walk away. But then he stops and says theyâll find the milk boy, but Granny only hears about their undying friendship, and thatâs as far as heâs willing to negotiate with Ghosty. Ha. Yi-ryung waits outside Gong-shilâs rooftop room that night, and Kang Woo slams her against the wall thinking sheâs the stalker. After hearing her explanation, he asks how sheâs planning to get her revenge for the broken engagement, and Yi-ryung says itâs simple sheâs going to steal Gong-shilâs man. Kang Woo doesnât seem convinced she can, but offers to help anyway, as long as she can find out why Joong-won is interested in Gong-shil. She assumes that Kang Woo likes Gong-shil too, which he lets her believe. But when Kang Woo reaches over to check the bruise on Yi-ryungâs cheek, her heart skips a beat. Joong-won and Gong-shil arrive at the milk delivery center and ask the current delivery boy about the last person who had his route. He points in the direction of a burly guy, but when Gong-shil asks if he used to deliver to Wang Manor, itâs the girl standing next to him who answers back. Aw, now Iâm disappointed that itâs just Coffee Prince Lite. The girl doesnât seem very interested in going with them, until Gong-shil tells her that thereâs a bouquet of green roses waiting for her. A flashback shows her cute bickering romance with the boy who was too proud to just admit that he liked her. He showed her the family rose garden and she asked if there were such a thing as a green rose, and he said there were, and they looked just like herâsort of like cabbage, and not very pretty. He followed it up with a kiss, but then they each covered up their embarrassment with more insults, and she ran away thinking he had just been messing with her. He fell ill and died soon after. The milk delivery girl runs her hands over the green roses, crying that he lied about them not being pretty. As we see his ghost lean in for a kiss, Grandma sees the roses wilt and disappear. On the ride home, Gong-shil happily tells Joong-won that green roses signify a rare noble love that only exists in heaven, extremely pleased that everyone found out the truth. Joong-won is equally pleased, that is, about the buckets of money heâs going to get in investments from Grandma. He tells her that she played her part in it, so heâll graciously drive her home. Pfft. She actually declines that they take her all the way home, since she doesnât want Kang Woo to see them together. I LOVE how much this irks him. Sheâs blind to it, of course, and blissfully tells him about how she fibbed that the ghosts were stalkers, and how the gallant Kang Woo offered to be her bodyguard. Joong-won gets petty and decides she should get out now then, and she pauses to reach for his hand before getting out rawr âYou said it was free, so I donât want to waste it.â She rubs his hand on her face as if she can make its effect linger, and walks home feeling less afraid. But then two scary men show up to lurk behind her, and sheâs sure theyâre human. They grab her in the dark narrow street, and she fights to get free, when suddenly Kang Woo appears to save the day. He fights them off with ease I do enjoy how much heâs choosing to be flashy and strike badass poses for her all the while and he asks if these are the men stalking her. Sheâs just as confused that living people are chasing her, but then the ghost matchmaker steps out from behind them. Augh, sheâs so creepy. She explains that she just wanted to see her one last time, and her minions created a misunderstanding. She says that Gong-shil shines so brightlyâthatâs why ghosts are drawn to her and seek her out. She says that some may only have requests, but that she needs to be on her guard âTheyâre looking for an opportunity⊠to return.â Ack. As she continues, we cut to Hee-jooâs ghost, lurking over Joong-wonâs shoulder. âThe darkness eventually swallows the light, and death eventually swallows life. Be careful not to be swallowed.â She leaves with that cryptic warning, leaving Gong-shil with a chill down her spine. Meanwhile, the neighbor boys sit in the playground waiting for Mom to get home, and Hyung doesnât notice that Little Bro wanders off in the direction of a ghost who waves at him to come closer. Eep. He finds his brother on the other side of the playground, staring intently at a creepy doll. He stops the boy from reaching out to it, and says that it might belong to someone else. If itâs still here later, then he can have it. Hyung leads him away by the hand, and Little Bro looks back to see a whole group of ghost kids surrounding the doll and waving. He waves back, and then the dollâs eyes glow and start to move. OH GREAT. I just had to get the Chucky episode, didnât I? Curses! Kang Woo walks Gong-shil home, and though he asks questions, she doesnât answer any of them. Instead she asks if he really likes her, and if thatâs why heâs so curious about her. She says he must be wondering why sheâs so secretive and how dire her secret must beâthat sheâs a spy, a criminal, or really a manâbut she says the truth is far worse. Gong-shil âItâs because Iâm so happy that someone likes me⊠if you knew, youâd run away.â She says heâs been warned, and that he should keep his distance, but he counters that she might not be the only one with a secret âYour warning does scare meâthat I might disappoint you.â He bids her goodnight with a long face, and she wonders to herself if she should just tell him the truth if he likes her that much. âKang Woo-sshi, I see ghosts⊠how can I say that?â The next morning, Joong-won is on cloud nine because president Wang invested in Kingdom over Giant Mall, and Gong-shil says she even offered her a job in China. Joong-won sounds a little alarmed at that, but she says she turned it down because heâs here. He asks if thatâs why sheâs so glum today, but she says itâs because she had to turn down a different offer, from the man who likes her. She tells him that she couldnât bring herself to tell him the truth, and look like a crazy person in his eyes. Joong-won assures her that Kang Woo will think she rejected him for other more normal reasons aw, was that a voluntary shoulder pat you just gave her? and she sighs that being around Joong-won has made her feel like a regular person again, dreaming of things like romance. She asks if heâll come over tonight because sheâs feeling extra blue, but he shuts that down right away. Gossip Man does his job as Uncle has ordered, and starts spreading the news that Gong-shil is rising in the ranks because of her romantic involvement with the boss. The other cleaning ladies wonder what about the security guard that she lives with, and that naturally gets Gossip Man all excited that thereâs a love triangle brewing. He runs back to his station to tell Kang Woo all about it, and wonders who the other guy is. He calls him crazy, whoever the poor guy is, for falling for Dark Circles like heâs been possessed by a ghost. Kang Woo just smiles and listens, and then puts a hand on his shoulder âItâs me.â He takes a look at the lollipop in his hand a present from a little girl he returned to her mother and marches down to catch Gong-shil. Meanwhile, Joong-won comes out and tells Secretary Kim that theyâll be taking Gong-shil home tonight. Kang Woo hands Gong-shil the lollipop and declares âI want to know you. Iâll be brave. You be strong.â He does have a knack for the swoony declarations. Joong-won watches it happen from the second floor, and races down to her. Thereâs this great sequence of build-up as they walk alongside each other, her on the outside, him on the inside looking out at her through the glass, as the pillars swoosh by. He walks right into her path in the doorway, and she beams as she tells him all about Kang Wooâs declaration. Joong-won âSo, are you going to him?â Gong-shil âYes, I want to. Iâm going to go.â COMMENTS I really do like Kang Woo, despite the fact that I can never truly tell where his intentions lie. Or I guess itâs more that despite his intentions being nefarious or at least driven by a mission, he seems to be doing the dumb thing and falling for his mark. And itâs just hard to hate a guy whoâs so well-mannered. Itâs the speed of the love triangleâs developments that keeps things interestingâjust when Joong-won thinks he can rest easy now that Kang Woo has been rejected, he swoops in for the Lollipop Confession. So now Joong-wonâs forced to up his game, and back and forth. The show is settling a bit more into its groove, but I do feel like Iâm missing that electric excitement when I watch this show. That isnât to say Iâm not having a good time, because itâs entertaining and zippy. Some of my enjoyment with this show is admittedly tempered by the recycled setups, which to be fair is true of most Hong sistersâ shows. But thereâs so much of Masterâs Sun that functions in the same way as My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho, from the touching-as-healing, to the mysterious second lead on a mission, down to the episodic timing of which romantic beats happen when. No one could accuse them of not following their own formula, thatâs for sure. Itâs just that everything is done to the letter as expected, which leaves a little something to be desired. I think thereâs room in the ghost premise to take it somewhere new, and we get a hint of that possibility in todayâs episode with the matchmakerâs warning. I have to say, possession opens up a much more interesting avenue than just ghost-seeing and last-wish granting. I want more of that to come to the surface, because it ties the ghosts into the central story in a tangible way, and if that puts our heroine at risk of being swallowed up whole, thatâs even better. There was a fantastic conflict and tension when Hee-joo possessed Gong-shil, and if thereâs a chance that doing so puts Gong-shil at risk and gives Hee-joo the chance to come back to life, then we get instant life-and-death stakes. For now the romance keeps me happy, with Joong-won being petty and jealous and refusing to admit his growing attachment much like todayâs Groom Ghost, who died before he could tell the girl he didnât mean it when he kept shoving his foot in his mouth. It makes it all the more delicious that Kang Woo is the total opposite, so even though I know heâs declaring feelings he might not have, I love it all the same, especially if itâs going to get Bossypants off his ass and offering up hugs for free.
